    The name -“Gayan Sandaruwan” is synonymous with motorcross racing in the Island. Over the years, Gayan has established a niche in the Motorcross arena with his skilled, talented, determined and highly acclaimed riding, placing him in the forefront in the sport in the country. He continues to dish out awesome riding skill and display at competitions to date. 

    Gayan commenced his racing career at the tender age of 17 years, whilst yet a student at high school. His interest in the sport was flamed by the fact that his whole family is involved in the business of Motor cycles – and Motorcycle sport. 

    His father has first hand knowledge in motorcycle racing – himself having participated at road racing events conducted at various venues. Gayan’s uncles too were famed motorcycle riders during the 1970s and 80’s and has had a huge impact on young Gayan, prompting him to take-up the sport. He is indeed fortunate to have had the guidance of his father – and his uncles. 

    Gayan entered the Motorcross field first in 2001 and since, has never looked back. In 2003, he won his first Motorcross accolade by winning the Sri Lankan Championship – the “SLARDAR CHAMPIONSHIP”. Encouraged by this performance Gayan has participated at all major Motorcross events conducted in the country accumulating the most prized trophies offered for the sport. He has continued to dominate the Motocross sport scene in the country winning the National Championship EIGHT times – thus laying claim as the undisputed champion of Motorcross racing in the country. He holds the most number of “wins” in the sport. 

    In 2008, he travelled overseas to gain experience and test his standing in the international arena. He represented Sri Lanka at the Asian Motor cross championship and did the country proud. 

    He has built a vast fan base in Sri Lanka and is a household name in Motorcross racing in the country. He continues with the sport and we could expect greater achievements in the future from this determined young rider.
