Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) has decided to postpone two of the countrys oldest hill climb events, the Mahagastota Hill Climb and the Radella Hill Climb owing the current situation of the country with the outbreak and spread of COVID-19.

The Mahagastota Hill Climb was the first event scheduled for the Holiday Season on 4th of April and two days later, on 6th of April, the Radella Hill Climb was planned to be held, focusing the Nuwara Eliya sporting events. But with the rising number of COVID-19 patients in Sri Lanka, the local governing body for motorsports, SLAS, has decided to postpone the events.

Both hill climbs are organized by two affiliated clubs of SLAS  Ceylon Motor Sports Club, the organisers of the Mahagastota eventand the Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club, the organisers of the Radella event.

Rizvi Farook, the Secretary of SLAS, has directed the two affiliated clubs in writing to postpone the two events with copies sent to the Secretary of Ministry of Sports, the Director General of Sports and the Assistant Director General of Sports.

In addition two of the important motorsports events lined up in mid-April and early-May also face a postponement, according to the SLAS.
The two events earmarked are the Fox Hill Supercross 2020 scheduled for 18th and 19th of April, organised by SLAS and the Nuwara Eliya Road Race slotted for 2nd and 3rd of May, organised by the Sri Lanka Motorcycle Club. However the two events are currently marked as events that are scheduled to take place.

The SLAS is currently having discussions with the parties involved in these two events and by the end of next week, may come to a firm decision, if the events would proceed or postponed, as told by a top official of SLAS to Motor Sports Network.
