Lasith Manujaya and Thusith Pathirana bagged the first win of the 2020 motorsports event calendar, by claiming victory of the main event of the Southern Speed Fiesta, organised and conducted by the Southern Motor Sports Club (SMSC).

Manujaya and Pathirana outsmarted the rest of competitors, by finishing off the main event with less demerit points, thus claiming the awards for Best Rally Driver and Best Navigator respectively.

Following the winning duo, driver Buwaneka Wijesinghe and co-driver Suranga Buddhika finished second, while Sam Chandrasoma and S.K. Methusanka followed in at third.

The champion combination of Manujaya and Pathirana also went on to claim the award on offer in the Novice Championship, for their prolific performance during the rally.

Kushan Thalagahawatte and Chamika Ranatunga followed behind to claim the second position of the Novice category, while Thushan Devanarayana and Akila Gunawardena were placed third.

The overall Team Award of the rally was claimed by ‘IronMan 4×4’, while Team Chana and Team Ruwansiri were placed second and third in the category.

The Motokhana Event, which was part of the main rally, was held at the Sanaya Mansion Hotel in Matara concurrently, under two categories — Manual and Auto.

Rajitha Uluwita dominated both categories to clinch the titles with his impeccable skills, as Ashraar Hameem emerged runner-up in both segments.  

In addition ‘Speed Runs, an Esport Motor event organised jointly by SMSC, Ceylon Motor Sport Club and Mandarin Red, was also held at the Sanaya Mansion Hotel, in which young and aspiring Calvin Rishab claimed victorious.

In the motorsport event for computer egamers, participants were given the challenge of navigating Mercedes Benz GT3 machines on a 3.1-kilometre computer generated Suzuka Racing Track.

Rishab had to overcome stiff challenge from Niroshan Jeewantha, Chamod Samarakoon and Ayan Hameed, who finished second, third and fourth respectively.
