The Commando Challenge Supercross happened for the 4th time jointly organised by Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR) and the Commando Regiment of the Army for the Hutch Lanka Super Series 2019. The event was held in Uva Kuda Oya and consisted of both motorcar and motorbike segments with a total of 22 competition rounds.


Motorbike Champ Buddhika Kasun faced an unfortunate accident during practice and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Ambilipitiya Hospital and later transferred to the Army Hospital. His health condition has improved now but would have to be under medical treatment for some time according to doctors. 


Twice national champion driver Ashan Silva showcased brilliance this time as well. He championed the Motorcar category amidst heavy challenges on the track by Ushan Perera and Kushan Peiris. Ushan came second and Kushan ended in third place. 


Meanwhile there was heated competition between Deshan Solanki and Imal Manchanayake in the motorbike category. However Manchanayake seemed to ride with much caution owing to accidents he faced in two previous occasions on the same tracks. Accordingly, Solanki beat Manchanayake ending first. 


Young rider Jacques Gunawardene had a tight fight with Evon Gurusinghe in the 175 – 200cc motorbike category where Jacques managed to catch up in round two with an extremely close race of a difference of 10 seconds and bag the championship trophy for best rider.
